VISION

We practice from a traditional Christian (Catholic) point of view, and we believe that telling the truth in all things is the first requirement of caritas (Christian love of neighbor).  We seek to treat the whole person (body, mind, and soul) according to the best traditions of the art and science of Medicine.  We will strive to listen, with empathy and compassion, so that we may fully understand you.

MISSION

To combine

  1. the current scientific knowledge base and relevant state-of-the-art technology of modern Medicine with
  2. the ancient healing art, typified by our patron saint, Luke, evangelist and “beloved physician” (Colossians 4:14).

From ancient times until the mid-20th Century, physicians promised (Oath of Hippocrates) to respect the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death, and to respect the dignity of all persons under their care. We pledge to follow this venerable ancient oath in the light of traditional Christian truth.

GOALS

To help solve the healthcare insurance crisis locally, we will provide individuals and families in our community with a source of quality, affordable basic healthcare that is an excellent value at reasonable prices, regardless of insurance.  For those who cannot afford insurance, we will strive to provide good care at the lowest possible cost.  For employers who cannot afford to provide insurance coverage, we will serve as a place where your employees can get the care they need at a fair price without having to be in a discount group marketed by an insurance plan.   We will strive to educate our patients as we go about the treatment options available and relevant cost considerations.

Our discount lab test prices, and low-cost generic prescriptions available onsite, can help to significantly reduce your overall expenses.

To promote wellness (through preventive medicine and education.)  We want to maintain each patient in maximum health, and offer excellent cost-effective treatment for illness.

THE HIPPOCRATIC OATH

I SWEAR BY APOLLO, the physician, and Aesculapius and Hygeia and All-heal and all the gods and goddesses that, according to my ability and judgement, I will keep this Oath and stipulation-

TO RECKON him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring on the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach his Art if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation.

BY RECEIPT, lecture and every mode of instruction I will impart a knowledge of the Art, to my own sons and those of my teachers and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the laws of medicine, but to none others.

I WILL FOLLOW that system of regimen which, according to my ability, I consider for the benefit of my patients and abstain from what is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to anyone if asked, nor suggest such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion.

WITH PURITY AND HOLINESS I will pass my life and practice my Art I will not cut a person who is suffering with a stone but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work.

INTO WHATEVER HOUSE I enter I will go into them for the benefit of the sick and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and further from the seduction of females or males, freeman or slaves.

WHATEVER IN CONNECTION with my professional practice, or not in connection with it, I may see or hear in the lives of men which ought not be spoke of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret.

WHILE I CONTINUE to keep this oath unviolated may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the Art, respected by men of all times, but, should I trespass and violate this oath may the reverse be my lot.

Sydenham, detail of an oil painting by Mary Beale, 1688; in the National Portrait Gallery, London

Thomas Sydenham (1624-1689), English physician; recognized as a founder of clinical medicine and epidemiology. Because he emphasized detailed observations of patients and maintained accurate records, he has been called “the English Hippocrates.”  He wrote:

“It becomes every person who purposes to give himself to the care of others, seriously to consider the four following things: First, that he must one day give account to the Supreme Judge of all the lives entrusted to his care. Second, that all his skill and knowledge and energy, as they have been given him by God, so they should be exercised for His glory and the good of mankind, and not for mere gain or ambition. Third, and not more beautifully than truly, let him reflect that he has undertaken the care of no mean creature; for, in order that he may estimate the value, the greatness of the human race, the only begotten Son of God became Himself a man, and thus ennobled it with his divine dignity, and far more than this, died to redeem it. And fourth, that the doctor being himself a mortal human being, should be diligent and tender in relieving his suffering patients, inasmuch as he himself must one day be a like sufferer.”
